What is an ORCID iD?

ORCID provides a persistent identifier – an ORCID iD – that distinguishes you from other researchers and a mechanism for linking your research outputs and activities to your iD. Learn more at orcid.org

Your ORCID iD moves with you throughout your career, improving the attribution and visibility of your work. ORCID iDs are fast becoming the standard in academia, and many publishers and funders now require them. Think of it like a DOI for a person!

Do you already have an ORCID iD? If not, skip this step and proceed to step 2.

Otherwise, follow the steps below to connect your iD to William & Mary. This will let you sign in to your existing ORCID account with your W&M user ID.

  1. Go to orcid.org/signin.
  2. Click the button for Access through your institution.
  3. Enter William & Mary for the organization name and click Continue.
  4. Login with your W&M credentials.
  5. On the next screen, enter your existing ORCID iD or the email you used to create your iD, and password. Click the blue "Sign into ORCID" button. If you don't remember, click the red link to reset it.
  6. You can now sign into ORCID with your W&M credentials. Hurray for one less password to remember! Plus, you can still sign in with your original email address, should you move to a different institution.

Fill in your existing ORCID iD number or email and password to link the W&M login system to your existing account.
